Item description
This is a matching pair of original cast iron dog bookends, produced by the New York Brass Company in 1928, cataloged as Model No. 134.
NY Brass Co. was a major American foundry known for architectural hardware, decorative metalwork, and novelty figural designs during the early 20th century. This model features a standing dog rendered in a simplified but expressive form, mounted on an integrated rectangular base.
Notable details:
Authentic New York Brass Co. production
Correct Model #134 casting
Original green-painted surface with aged patina
Solid cast iron construction
Matching left and right pair
Retains crisp form with honest wear from age
The backs show casting marks consistent with period production. Surface wear and oxidation are appropriate and desirable, not damage or repainting. These were designed as bookends, though they are also commonly used today as decorative shelf or mantel accents.
Collected by:
Dog and animal figure collectors
Antique bookend collectors
Early American industrial design enthusiasts
Interior designers (library, study, office styling)
? Condition: original, structurally sound, no breaks or repairs
? Date: circa 1928
?? Material: cast iron
? Guaranteed original
