Item description
Vintage original 11x14 in. US lobby card from the classic 1950's silent film era-themed drama/romance biopic, VALENTINO, released in 1951 by Columbia Pictures and directed by Lewis Allen. Based upon the story, Valentino As I Knew Him, by George Bruce, Italian immigrant Rudolph Valentino (Anthony Dexter) makes it big in silent era Hollywood, but ends-up struggling between his career and the woman he loves. The cast includes Eleanor Parker, Richard Carlson, Patricia Medina, Joseph Calleia, Dona Drake, Lloyd Gough, and Otto Kruger.
The image features an interior publicity shot depicting silent film legend Rudolph Valentino (Anthony Dexter) in costume from The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse (1921) with Patricia Medina (left), Eleanor Parker (right) and Dona Drake all admiring him. As indicated just above the bottom border near the credits box, this is lobby card #3 from the set of 8 cards. It is unrestored in very fine- condition with some toning along the bottom edge; a 1 in. vertical crease in the bottom right corner of Patricia Medina's dress; and a few small creases in the image area simply from handling over time. There are no tears, other stains, writing, or other flaws and the color tints are fresh and vibrant without any signs of fading.
Producer Edward Small chose Anthony Dexter (in his film debut) for the lead from over 75,000 applicants and 400 screen tests. Among those who tested included Ricardo Montalban, Fernando Lamas, Jon Hall, John Derek, Guy Madison, Arturo de Córdova, and Guy Williams.
