My husband and I operate a day spa in the Bahamas for the last 16 years of our marriage. The first year of our marriage something amazing happened. I invented a piece of furniture to my surprise was a unique invention. This inspiration happened because I couldn't find a convertible furniture that can provide space utilization, style, quality and comfort for my small guest bedroom that was also being used as an office. I dreaded purchasing a sofa bed because I have morbid memories of how uncomfortable the bed was.

About 5 years before inventing the Chaise bed, I met my father I didn't know. He was living in the United States with his wife. I didn't realize that this journey was a beginning of something very special. My dad travelled to meet me in the Bahamas and there was instant connection and bond. I am a carbon copy of my father; he is loving, kind and has a creative personality. He is a very skilled carpenter and can build almost anything, in minutes he can figure out the blueprints.

I never knew that my dream of meeting my dad, would come true. At the age of 21 years old, he received my letter sent via FedEx letting him know that I wanted to get to know him, and he responded with open arms. Of course, my dad comes as a pair so his wife, who was very warm and welcoming. She was the driving force at motivating my dad to build a prototype for me, when he thought he didn't have the time.

This journey was long and challenging. Although very challenging, I just had to keep going to see it through. Not to mention that if it wasn't for my dear husband, I would not even be penning these words. He was the first to recognize that I had invented something unique, which needed to be patented.

It was not long before we started this journey together, that is me, my husband and my dad. My relationship with my dad was strengthen around this furniture invention. He also accompanied me to INPEX Invent Help Inventor show twice in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where I was an exhibitor featuring my convertible furniture.

Attending this show with my dad was one of the best feelings ever, my father is not just a master carpenter, he is a wood genius! He poured so much love into my prototype, this led me to winning two gold medal awards when competing with other inventors around the world. Now it is 20 years later, and my product is now finally on market.

About 10 years ago my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer and had surgery. It felt like my world had fell apart and I was heartbroken. We have done so much together; my disquieting thoughts were at times "will he live to see it become a reality". I am driven by my dad interest in my invention, we share something special together. I am determined despite the burn to keep going and do my best to see it through to the end! I hope that people will come to love and cherish the Chaise Bed. There is no compromise on quality, it speaks to my integrity.
