Item description

This is a Vintage Thangka Print of Original Chongapa Tibetaan Thangka Painting. Chongapa or Je Tsongkhapa, a famous Tibetan religious philosopher, lived from 1357 to 1419. He was the center of the Gelugpa sect, the dominant religious order in Tibet, until the Chinese takeover in 1951. The Dalai Lama is the de facto leader of this sect. Tsongkhapa developed a unique philosophy called Middle Way, based on the works of the Indian philosopher N?g?rjuna and Candrak?rti's interpretation. He differentiated between the correct Consequentialist interpretation and the incorrect Autonomist interpretation of the works. He was heavily influenced by the Indo-Tibetan Buddhist logico-epistemological tradition, founded by Dign?ga and Dharmak?rti. Tsongkhapa believed that the ultimate truth was the emptiness of intrinsic existence, but he also emphasized the importance of conventional reality. He developed hermeneutics to uphold the authority of correct moral statements at the traditional level. His most influential writing reconciled the philosophy of emptiness with the imperative of praxis embodied in a universal altruistic principle. Tsongkhapa placed great importance on tantric praxis without devaluing the centrality of ordinary moral life. He developed a unique analysis of dependent origination to support his assertion that entities are both conventional and ultimate truths. He is known for wearing a tall yellow hat, associated with his teachings and for his contribution to the Gelugpa sect.
