The Invisible Man (1954) aka The Invisible Avenger, Tômei ningen Based on H.G. Wells Novella Japanese With Removable English Subtitles Insert Cover Art Customer Review: Nice picture and sound ~ Yours, G.S. The Invisible Man (1954 - B W - 70 min.) Released December 1954, Public Domain December 1982 Language: Japanese with Removable English Subtitles DVD-R Recordable Media On Demand Not A Factory Release Comes in Black Case, Cover Art Country: Japan Regional Code: 0 (All Regions/Countries) Format: NTSC Full Screen Audio: Stereo Director: Motoyoshi Oda Writers: Shigeaki Hidaka, Kei Beppu Cinematography Special Effects: Eiji Tsuburaya Starring: Seizaburo Kawazu, Miki Sanjo, Minoru Takada, Yoshio Tsuchiya, Kenjirô Uemura, Kamatari Fujiwara, Keiko Kondo Synopsis: One of many films inspired by the 1897 H.G. Wells sci-fi novella The Invisible Man. The film follows a circus clown and a gang, both of whom can become invisible due to ingesting a formula developed by the government during WWII. The gang of criminals has been using their powers to wreak havoc and cause chaos throughout Japan and the clown (portrayed by Kawazu) is the only one with the courage to stand up to them. Released less than two months after the original Godzilla with Eiji Tsuburaya handling effects for both films. For the former, Tsuburaya used optical compositing to enhance the illusion of invisibility, such as a motor scooter ridden by the invisible hero that seems to move on its own. Meanwhile, the ending recalls the famous farewell-in-a-fireball climax of Raoul Walsh's White Heat.
