Item description

Santo Domingo 13.5" LRG Polychrome Vase Pottery Handbuilt by Thomas Tenorio This is a simply gorgeous piece of pottery art by renown Santo Domingo potter Thomas Tenorio. Thomas Tenorio did a beautiful job not only building this pot, but the painting is perfect. This pot was handbuilt, then fired outside in an open pit. Thomas paints these traditional pots with pigments that he makes. This is a spectacular piece by a wonderful craftsman. This beautiful piece is 13.5" tall with a 10.5" diameter at the shoulder. The opening is 7" in diameter. Hallmarked. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. In late 19th century, Santo Domingo Pueblo developed a style of decoration that was unlike that of any of the other pueblos. Santo Domingo potters developed a strong bold form of ornamentation in black and red. The Santo Domingo religious beliefs prevents the potters from including human figures on their pottery for "only Creator makes figures."
