Description
Orach, also known as Saltbush, is an organic super food that contains loads of nutritional benefits. It grows in salty soil, where most other vegetables cannot sustain. This is one of the primary reasons it is also called ‘saltbush’. This leafy, green vegetable, replete with a unique aroma and taste can be used in your diet. The name ‘Orach’ is used to denote the Atriplex genus – which contains over 250 distinct species of plants. The species can store salt in leaves and that is how it can sustain in saline environments.
Vitamin K, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Dietary fibre, Protein, Carbohydrates, Magnesium, Potassium, Phosphorus
CULTURE:Orach does well in any well-drained garden soil. Tolerant of both hot and cold weather, it is best planted early spring through midsummer. Sow seeds 1-2" apart, covering 1/4", in rows spaced 18-30" apart. Thin to 6-10" apart.
DISEASES AND PESTS:Prevent disease with crop rotation and sanitation.
HARVEST:Pick leaves when plants reach 1' tall, or more. The plants will continue to produce young, edible leaves.
