Item description

The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter (1992 Hardcover) Author and Illustrator: Helen Beatrix Potter (1866 – 1943) Publisher: Derrydale Books, Lanham, MD U.S.A. 1992 90th anniversary edition. Peter disobeys his mother by going into Mr. McGregor's garden and almost gets caught. The Tale of Peter Rabbit is the 1st title in the 23 children's tales. 19th century British idioms have been altered for modern readers, but with attempt to retain the charm of the original. Helen Beatrix Potter (1866 – 1943) was an English writer, illustrator, natural scientist, and conservationist best known for her children's books featuring animals, her first and perhaps most famous being The Tale of Peter Rabbit. In all, Potter wrote thirty books; the best known being her twenty-three children's tales. The Derrydale Press in New York city published special limited editions of sporting books. It was a special publishing venture of Eugene V. Connett III, Princeton Class of 1912, founded in 1926 and continued until its liquidation in 1942. The name was resurrected in the 1990s and the Derrydale Press is currently operated as an imprint of the Rowman Littlefield Publishing Group of Lanham, Maryland which uses it to put out books on the outdoors as well as hunting, fishing, horse sports, hiking, and sporting art. Derrydale is the publisher for this 1992 edition. For this edition: cover and interior design by Clair Moniz; production supervision by Helen Marra Ellen Reed; and editorial supervision by Claire Booss. Hardcover has white laminated covers with full color illustrations front rear, black and blue lettering on spine front cover, but no DJ. Square corners and negligible shelf-wear. Interior is tight, clean and unmarked. Opens as if never read. Always privately owned. Size: 16mo - over 5 - 6" tall, 61pp. Condition: Fine (As New) Hardcover w/o DJ - Always Privately Owned. New material copyrighted 1992. Originally published in 1902 by Frederick Warne Co. Printed and bound in the United States of America. Print-line missing 0 9, so 3rd printing assumed. ISBN-10: 0-517-07236-X. LCCN: 91-34982. No MSR. Notes on Condition/Edition ratings: Fine – means like new, but any book produced over 10 years ago isn't “brand new”. Booksellers needed some word to describe this... Like New – A new book, no marks no damage (except maybe remainder marks) except not obtained directly from the publisher or in packaging from the publisher. Very Good – How you or I might take care of a book, closer to “as new” than standard. Might show ownership. Good – How someone else might take care of a book. Also referred to as “standard.” The most likely condition for books of this age title, shows the book has been read or previously owned. Acceptable – How a child, student or a librarian might take care of a book. (Either trying to make sure someone doesn't steal it by plastering ownership everywhere, filled it with copious notes or a book that has been damaged.) Poor – Combination of “acceptable” factors above. Most likely with water damage as well. Might have missing pages (you should ask). Near – Means “almost” in an optimistic sense. e.g., “Near Fine” means very good, but on the high end. 1st Thus – Unique somehow, maybe 1st paperback, new illustrator, misprint or even the 1st edition. A collector might desire this copy. Thanks for looking!
