Item description

IT'S CLEANER ON THE INSIDE by John Bright London: Neville Spearman, 1961. First edition, first printing. "First published in 1961 by Neville Spearman" statement to the copyright page, 1961 date printed to the title page, and 16s price printed to the jacket's flap. Bright was a successful American screenwriter of numerous films, many starring James Cagney (before he was blacklisted in the early 1950s), most notably 'The Public Enemy'. He also wrote the script for San Quentin, the Warner Bros. Lloyd Bacon directed 1937 film starring Humphrey Bogart and Ann Sheridan, filmed on site in San Quentin prison. This novel, depicting American crime, gangsters and other criminals starts out picturing a variety of rough characters and crime in San Francisco, and then follows the protagonist to life inside a graphically depicted San Quentin prison. Very nearly fine in black linen boards with silver embossed titles and rules to the spine; in a near fine dust jacket with light dust soiling to the rear panel and with a touch of age-toning to the spine panel; original printed 16s price still intact to the front inner flap.
