"The Legend of Jubal" is her expansion and mythologization of the Biblical character Jubal, descendant of Cain, who was "the father of all who handle the harp and organ" (Gen. 4:20-21). Although the Biblical account tells us no more about Jubal, Eliot's poem builds neo-Romantic mythos which serves as a parable of the value of humanity and imagination.
