Item description

On DVD or VHS: Picture above shows Queen Elizabeth leading CARROZZA after winning the 1957 Epsom Oaks with a young Lester Piggott aboard National Hunt Racing has been the Queen Mother's sporting passion for nearly 40 years. In a unique film of her racing life, The Queen Mother talks about how she became "hooked" on the sport, and the great enjoyment she derives from it. This feature provides a rare view of The Queen Mother away from her official duties, talking informally for the first time of her love of horse racing. In 40 years, her enthusiasm for the sport remains undiminished. The Queen Mother makes it clear in the film that it is the friendships she has made and the relationship with her horses that she enjoys the most. Her affection is clearly displayed on her visits to The Royal Studs at and her trainer's stables at Saxon House, Lambourn. She talks with affection about some of the horses she has owned: DEVON , GAME SPIRIT, DOUBLE STAR, SPECIAL CARGO, THE RIP and also about the future of some of her younger horses. Includes interviews with the Manager of The Royal Studs, Michael Oswald; her private Secretary Sir Martin Gillia; Fulke Walwyn her trainer; and many of the jockeys and racing people who have been associated with The Queen Mother's racing life. 53 Minutes.
