Item description

Blondie is a 1938 movie directed by Frank Strayer, based on the comic strip of the same name, created by Chic Young. The screenplay was written by Richard Flournoy. This was the first of 28 films based on the comic strip; Columbia Pictures produced them from 1938 to 1943, and popular demand brought them back in 1945. When the Blondie film series came to an end with Beware of Blondie in 1950, it was announced that it would be replaced with a series of Gasoline Alley movies. However, only two such films were made, Gasoline Alley (1951) and Corky of Gasoline Alley (1951). Columbia then reissued the Blondie features, beginning with the very first film in the series. Columbia used the series to showcase many of its talented contract players. Rita Hayworth was featured in Blondie on a Budget; Glenn Ford in Blondie Plays Cupid, Larry Parks and Janet Blair in Blondie Goes to College, Shemp Howard in Blondie Knows Best and Adele Jergens in Blondie's Anniversary. Other roles were taken by Columbia contractees Bruce Bennett, Lloyd Bridges, Ann Doran, Stanley Brown, Richard Fiske, Bud Jamison, Eddie Laughton, John Tyrrell, Alyn Lockwood, Jimmy Lloyd, Gay Nelson and Ross Ford. 01-Blondie (1938) - the debut film 02-Blondie Meets the Boss (1939) 03-Blondie Takes a Vacation (1939) 04-Blondie Brings Up Baby (1939) 05-Blondie on a Budget (1940) - the fifth entry, co-starring contract player Rita Hayworth 06-Blondie Has Servant Trouble (1940) 07-Blondie Plays Cupid (1940) - co-starring Glenn Ford 08-Blondie Goes Latin (1941) - the 8th film; the only musical in the series 09-Blondie in Society (1941) - with William Frawley in the first of three appearances 10-Blondie Goes to College (1942) - co-starring Larry Parks and Janet Blair, and with a bit part by Lloyd Bridges 11-Blondie's Blessed Event (1942) 12-Blondie For Victory (1942) - the 12th film 13-It's a Great Life (1943) 14-Footlight Glamour (1943) - co-starring Ann Savage 15-Leave It to Blondie (1945) 16-Life With Blondie (1945) 17-Blondie's Lucky Day (1946) 18-Blondie Knows Best (1946) - co-starring Shemp Howard (one of the Three Stooges) 19-Blondie's Big Moment (1947) - with Anita Louise 20-Blondie's Holiday (1947) 21-Blondie in the Dough (1947) 22-Blondie's Anniversary (1947) - co-starring Adele Jenkins 23-Blondie's Reward (1948) 24-Blondie's Secret (1948) 25-Blondie's Big Deal (1949) 26-Blondie Hits the Jackpot (1949) 27-Blondie's Hero (1950) 28-Beware of Blondie (1950) - also with Adele Jenkins These films were originally produced long before the advent of High Definition TV, therefore they are best viewed on a small screen. HD TVs tend to stretch and skew the picture. Set your HD TV on 4:3 aspect ratio. (That was the old TV format). Please do not expect DVD or Commercial level DVDs from these films. Email us for any additional info. Bay’s Public Domain policy: These movies are in the public domain. Thousands of Hollywood motion pictures are in the Public Domain because they were released without Copyright Notices, never registered with the Library of Congress, had improper or late registrations; or were not properly renewed under the old requirements for films made before 1964. The status of films registered from 1929 through 1956 is noted in 3 volumes of Copyright Catalogs of motion picture registrations published by the Library of Congress.
