Item description

This is a vintage original 9 x 14.75 in. "Official United States Entry in the 1962 Cannes Film Festival" promotional packet for the classic 1960's drama, A LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT, released in 1962 by Twentieth Century-Fox and directed by Sidney Lumet. Based upon the famous play by Eugene O'Neill, at the end of a long and hot summer day, members of one family gather in a large house. Everyone has something painful and offensive to say and their silence is even worse. The cast includes Katharine Hepburn, Ralph Richardson, Jason Robards, Dean Stockwell, and Jeanne Barr. This vintage original promotional packet consists of a thick brown outer cardstock pocket folder that is protected by an outer paper wrapper with the film's title. This lifts-up to reveal a dramatic scene from the film and notes on the bottom: THE OFFICIAL UNITED STATES ENTRY IN THE 1962 CANNES FILM FESTIVAL. The front cover opens from the top to reveal basic information about the film on the top half and a pocket folder on the bottom half. Included in the pocket folder are six separately stapled publicity items that include: A Biographical Note on [Producer] Joseph E. Levine (on page); Hepburn Has Meatiest Role of Career in "Long Day's Journey Into Night" (three pages); Sidney Lumet, Major American Talent Is Director of "Long Day's Journey" (two pages); Synopsis of "Long Day's Journey Into Night" (seven pages); The Story Behind the Film" (two pages on blue stock); and The Author (5 pages on 11x14 stock) This vintage original 1962 Cannes Film Festival entry promotional packet is complete in overall very fine- condition. The outer paper wrapper has separation from the spine and has creases and wear along the sides with lesser amounts in the middle; the brown cardstock pocket folder has separated along the last 7.5 in. but is otherwise in great condition; the first paper insert described above has two diagonal creases on the top left corner; and the other documents are all in very fine condition. Katharine Hepburn received an Academy Award nomination for "Best Actress in a Leading Role" for her performance as "Mary Tyrone" as well as a Golden Globe nomination for "Best Actress - Drama."
