Superb Republic film on the life of composer Richard Wagner

MAGIC FIRE (Republic, 1955) was one of the last bigger budget films Republic produced before going under. William Dieterle directed. Sadly, this film remains largely unknown. Starring Alan Badel as Wagner and the always beautiful Yvonne De Carlo as his first wife, Minna, the film charts Wagner's musical life with large chunks of his music (arranged by composer Erich Korngold).Republic went all out on this one...The Bavarian Radio Symphony performs with significant vocalists of the period (Hans Hopf,Leonie Rysanek,Otto Edelmann). Filmed in the very locations. Superb color and sound. Highly recommended. Very good production values. Thank you Hollywood Scrapheap!
