Item description
Vintage original French poster from the worldwide 1970's theatrical re-release of GONE WITH THE WIND, originally released in 1939 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and directed by Victor Fleming. Based upon the best-selling novel by Margaret Mitchell, a beautiful and manipulative woman (Vivien Leigh) and a roguish man (Clark Gable) conduct a turbulent romance during the American Civil War and Reconstruction periods. The cast includes Leslie Howard, Olivia de Havilland, Thomas Mitchell, Evelyn Keyes, Ann Rutherford, Hattie McDaniel, Butterfly McQueen, and George Reeves.
For the film's worldwide 1970's theatrical re-release by MGM, the studio revamped the artwork to emphasize the sexuality of Rhett Butler and Scarlet O'Hara's relationship as he holds her in his arms as the shoulder of her dress falls down. Included is an image of the famous "Oscar" statuette award by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, for which this film one 10 Academy Awards. Unrestored and folded as originally issued, it is in near-fine condition with remnants of and/or stains from clear Scotch tape on the corners with a larger amount beneath the top edge at the left and right sides. There are corner pinholes, small nicks and tears on the edges, and and brown paper tape affixed to various areas of the verso.
