Item description
Offering one totally gorgeous small lapel pin probably dating from the 1920's or not far off. Vermeil is sterling silver which has been gold plated, typically it is marked as sterling and so this one is. There are beautiful tiny little drops of verdigris forming on the wings, you might almost think they are an application. Clear crystal set into the eagle's breast. It is about 7/16" tall. The original butterfly clasp is not present, I will put one on but it will not be sterling. The initials "F O E" are in cloisonne in red, white and blue across the bottom. It still has the original card.
The Fraternal Oder Of Eagles were and are your quintessential "Lodge" where men go to get away from the house and have a few drinks especially in dry counties back when. It pre-dates the American Legion by just over 21 years and yes they do pro-bono and service work but it is basically a lodge hall type thing. Not directly veteran connected but the Legion didn't really become the primary lodge hall organization until after the second World War when so many vets were prospective members.
It is a really sweet little pin, patriotic and appealing, might have been given as a "sweetheart" pin.
