Item description
Vintage original 11x14 in. US lobby card from the 1930's western, THE FIGHTING GRINGO, released in 1939 by RKO Radio Pictures and directed by David Howard. Ben Wallace (William Royle) is after Don Aliso's (Lucio Villegas) rancho. But Wallace has a dumb-witted accomplice in Rance Potter (Glenn Strange) and this is who Barton thinks he can trick into a confession.
The image features an exterior medium shot of handsome Wade Barton (George O'Brien) dancing with Anita del Campo (Lupita Tovar), who is wearing a beautiful white dress (perhaps this is after their wedding?) as others dance with them. The color tints on this card are especially attractive. On the center of the verso is a rubber stamp credit in black ink indicating that this card is from the famous "Cozy Theatre Collection" (which was a theatre in downtown Los Angeles where a huge amount of vintage movie memorabilia was found and subsequently sold-off). This vintage original lobby card is in very fine condition with just two pinholes the top border in the left half, a 1-in. area of wear long the edge of the right border in the bottom half that has formed a crease with small tears at the ends; one pinhole in the top half of the right border and one near the bottom right corner within the border; and light signs of wear on the bottom right corner. The colors are as fresh and vibrant as when this card was printed in 1939 and it looks even nicer in person.
The beautiful Mexican actress Lupita Tovar is best known today for her role as Eva Seward in Universal Pictures' 1931 Spanish-language version of Dracula, which was shot on the same sets as the Bela Lugosi version but at night time after the American cast had finished filming.
The Fighting Gringo; RKO Radio Pictures; 1939; dir: David Howard; cast: George O'Brien, Lupita Tovar, Lucio Villegas, William Royle, Glenn Strange, Slim Whitaker, LeRoy Mason, Mary Field, Martin Garralaga, Dick Bottiler, Bill Cody, Cactus Mack, Chris-Pin Martin.
