Item description
THE KING IS DEAD
By Ellery Queen, pen name of co-writers Frederic Dannay and Manfred Lee.
New York: Little Brown and Company, (1952).
First edition, first printing.
"First edition" statement to the copyright page.
The Queens travel to a secret and mysterious island to try to save the threatened life of a hated industrial magnate, King Bendigo. Ellery is soon trying to solve a locked room murder and pondering the brute militarism of totalitarian power.
A nicely preserved first edition vintage mystery.
Former owner's name to the inside front cover, corner tips bumped, else very good plus, tight and firm in red linen boards with black titles and decorative rules to the front cover and to the spine; in a very good plus price-clipped dust jacket with mystery stylized art by J. O'H. Cosgrave II, with a touch of fading to the spine panel, nicks and rubs to the upper and lower spine edges, a half-inch tear to the upper front panel edge and to the upper spine fold.
The dust jacket will be placed in a clear protective, removable sleeve after scanning for this entry.
