Item description
PETTICOAT WAR IN THE WHITE HOUSE:
A Novelized Biography of Peggy O'Neill
By Charles B. Keats.
[no place]: Heritage Hall, (1973).
First edition.
Inscribed, SIGNED and dated 1973 by the author to the front end-paper.
Laid in is Charles B. Keats' printed white and blue calling card with 'The Tennis Club' in Fort Lauderdale, Florida address.
All the characters in this biographical novel are based on real people.
Peggy O'Neill became Peggy Eaton when she married U.S. Senator John H. Eaton, after a previous marriage.
A highly educated woman for her time, she was noted for her wit and beauty, became a confidant of Andrew Jackson, was snubbed and socially outcast by cabinet wives after her husband became Secretary of War. The snubbing was dubbed The Petticoat Affair.
Elusive historical novel, especially SIGNED.
Bookshop address label to the lower inside front cover, else very good plus in black linen with gilt embossed titles to the spine, blue-and-white headband and tail-band; in a very good dust jacket with shelf-edge nicks, small chips and tears that have been tape reinforced from the verso, and with chips and tears to the upper and lower spine edges; original printed $6.95 price still intact to the front inner flap.
After photographing for this entry, the jacket will be placed in a protective, removable, clear, quality Bro-Dart brand sleeve.
Octavo; 323 pages.
