Item description
Page Illustration for Searles: Sixth Reader
c. 1940-1950
A two-page illustration board for pages 420 and 421 of Sixth Reader by Anna Hawley Searles. It is an ink wash drawing showing a ship's captain on his bridge smiling whimsically at a visiting pigeon. This board was done for the publishers Allyn and Bacon (founded in 1868), and has their name stamped in violet in the lower corner of each page. The name of the artist is unknown. There are photographic orientation markers pasted at lower corners of each page. It is on heavy poster cardboard and is in plastic. Has a few stains on the front and back. Size is 18-3/4" by 7-1/8". A nice drawing.
