Item description
CHARLEVOIX:
TWO CENTURIES AT MURRAY BAY
by Philippe Dupe
In Collaboration with the Photographer: Jacques Blouin
Kingston Montreal: McQueen's University Press, (1990).
First edition, first printing.
Governor James Murray granted the properties of Murray Bay and Mount Murray to two officers of the Regiment of Fraser Highlanders in 1762.
The North shore of the St Lawrence river was first colonized by merchants of Quebec and developed by the French Regime.
This area called Charlevoix gained a reputation for its picturesque scenery and quiet way of life, and its blend of English and French culture, enticing travelers and tourists to visit for two centuries.
Enhanced with a bounty of striking photographs and beautiful illustrations of the elegant resort homes, the people who built and inhabited them, and the tourists who flocked there, Dube captures the beauty, architecture, and unique history of this region of Quebec.
Fine in grey linen with gilt embossed titles to the spine; in a fine dust jacket that bares the usual mild tan offsetting to the inner flaps.
An important architecture history.
A lovely, like new, gift item with striking photographs.
Square quarto; 271 pages; notes; bibliography; illustration credits.
