Item description
THE STRAW MAID
by Anita Lobel
Illustrated by Anita Lobel
New York: Greenwillow Books, (1983).
First edition, first printing.
Contains publisher's first printing number code sequence 10 through 1.
Fine in brown linen over clay-red boards with blind-embossed illustration of a milk-maid girl to the front cover and with gilt embossed titles to the spine; in a fine dust jacket; original $9.50 price still intact to the front inner flap.
Scandinavian folk-tale rendered fresh in Lobel's picture-book setting, recounted in a simple, unadorned yet evocative prose style and accompanied by the Polish-born author and artist's delicate, witty and warm-hearted artwork in beautiful color.
A poor country girl kidnapped by robbers to become their working maid, cleverly fools them and goes home.
Lobel is a Caldecott Honor Prize-winning illustrator.
Unusual in such nice condition with the dust jacket
Square octavo.
