Item description
CALVERT VAUX:
Architect Planner
by William Alex
Introduction by George B. Tatum
New York: Ink, Inc., 1994.
First edition, first printing.
A comprehensive narrative of Vaux's work sumptuously illustrated on high-quality plates of his plans, blueprints, renderings, completed projects, photographs, and watercolors.
The first complete biography of the often over-shadowed 19th-century architect, planner, and landscape designer.
Vaux collaborated to plan New York's Central Park, Brooklyn's Prospect Park, and the first city-wide park, designed in 1868 for Buffalo, N.Y.
On his own he designed the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and The American Museum of Natural History. He continued with city and town design and planning, bridges, homes, and schools.
Fine in fresh, bright red linen with gilt embossed titles to the spine; in a fine dust jacket.
Unusual in such crisp condition!
Square quarto; 271 pages; list of illustrations and sources, and index.
A LAVISHLY ILLUSTRATED FASCINATINGLY DETAILED BOOK!
