Item description
WHITE FAWN
By Olive Higgins Prouty.
New York, N.Y.: Dell Publishing Company, [Circa 1947].
First paperback edition.
First published in 1931 in hardcover by Houghton Mifflin.
The first of four novels featuring members of the Boston Vale family, the second entry, NOW VOYAGER was adapted to the 1942 film starring Betty Davis and Paul Henreid.
All the Vale novels deal with Boston society, class culture, and a respect for psychological distress, problems, and solutions.
An ocean voyage is intended to soothe family issues, particularly after a Vale falls in love with a lower class man.
Number 167 in the Dell mapback paperback series.
Rather scarce first paperback printing, especially in such well-preserved condition.
Faint, small penciled date to the upper corner, and lamination lift to the lower corner of the front cover, pages starting to age-tone as usual, else quite square and firm, tight, possibly unread, and about near fine in stiff card wraps with promotional slug for 'NOW VOYAGER', 1940s style art by Gerald Gregg, and purple and black titles all to the front cover, black titles to a bright pink spine, color map by Ruth Belew depicting 'Boston and vicinity' to the rear cover; all page edges pale blue, Dell code 167 to the front cover and to the spine.
The book will be placed in a protective clear baggie, after photographing for this entry.
