Antique Pair FRENCH Cut Steel Shoe Buckles; and 16 similar items

Designed to be secured to a wide strip of leather or heavy fabric as adornment for shoe and could be adapted to a variety of shoes by slightly bending the frames. These are marked MADE in FRANCE. I am inclined to date these Post-1914 (when required MADE IN came to world wide use.) Also, the style of the design is very geometrical with lots of straight lines and angles which was the style of late Edwardian into the Art Deco period. Cut steel was “supposed” to be a cheaper option to marcasite, paste, or diamonds, but I am astounded at the amount of labor that it took to create them! These days, many crafters are using them as centerpiece components to new creations of adornment – these are in nice condition with no apparent rust, corrosion, missing rivets/gaps; and that the pair is still together and intact. They measure 2 ” x 2”. Overall, they are in nice condition for being a century old. Nice gift for the collector of authentic cut steel pieces.
