Item description
One of the rarest collector's item from 1956. Characters were designed and drawn by Tove Jansson herself.
These were the first products with Moomin theme Tove Jansson gave permission to manufacture.
The first Moomin-event "Moomin Hill" was at Stockmann department store in Helsinki in 1956 and these Moomin silk screen prints were for sale there. After Stockmann NK Stockholm had the same Moomin-event.
They were also used for the first Moomin products (candles and their boxes) manufactured by former Vaasan Saippuatehdas (1886-1987) in Vaasa Finland and sold at Stockmann in 1956.
Only a few complete and intact sheets have survived, this series is one of 9 survived.
Statement / certificate of authenticity included.
Anders Landen has presented these Moomin rarities on the first pages of his new 500 pages book "Treasures from Moomin Valley", the commercial story of the Moomins began through these pictures.
After the discovery the first to acquire them were the Moomin Museum and Moomin Characters for their collections.
Authenticity was verified with the Moomin Museum prior to the exhibition and confirmed that these are the first ever commercial Moomin products. This series can be seen at Moomin Museum.
Printed by Helsinki Kromipaino in 1956.
The price is for four different sheets (a series) 4 x 6 images, size 7 x 43 cm, in good condition. Buyer gets also three Tove's Art cards from 1941 worth $100 (last picture).
A picture from Anders Landen's new book. This is how it all began.
I am happy to provide more information about these unusual Moomin rarities.
