MICHAEL VAUGHN
ORIGINAL "UNTITLED" LANDSCAPE OIL PAINTING
ITEM IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION
Michael Vaughn was born in Somerset and subsequently moved to London where he lived until his untimely death in 2002. He was a world class artist who specialised in painting racing yachts and tall ships. The excitement, speed and grace of ocean racing represents a formidable challenge to any marine painter. To capture the power of the waves and wind, the ever changing play of light and the tensions in sails, rigging and crew, then bring all that alive in paint is something few artists have achieved as successfully. Michael's racing and tall ships pictures succeed precisely because they are so full of that life. His obvious enthusiasm for this subject, combined with an unerring eye for composition, graphics and colour made his paintings among the most exciting images of sailing anywhere. Michael's arresting blend of media allowed him to focus a viewer's attention exactly where the action was in a picture, leaving other areas as a celebration of pure colour or texture. Combine this textural richness with an often surprising choice of viewpoint and it is easy to see why Michael's paintings have earned a place in the collections of many of the companies. corporations and personalities that make sailing one of the world's great spectacles. Michael worked for many leading advertising agencies and completed many international commissions. His extensive list of clients included British Airways, Ford Australia, British Steel, Molsen Lager, Marlborough, Royal Tournament, American Express, ICI, eagle Star and Rothmans International
