Believe it or not, I originally bought this at a Red Owl grocery store, between 1969 and 1975, when Red Owl had a small display of discount hardcovers.  I had enjoyed reading the author's novel THE SAND PEBBLES, and thought I'd give THE SONS OF MARTHA AND OTHER STORIES a chance, as well.  So this copy has been part of my life for nearly 50 years or more, and has largely spent most of its life on one or another of my many bookshelves, back and forth from Minnesota to California and back.
