Asian Lucky Rice Sauce Dipping Plates
with Matching Spoons
Translucent "Rice Eyes" Pattern
This is a matching set of 4 porcelain Asian dipping plates for sauce with 4 matching spoons in the "lucky rice" or "rice eyes" pattern. This pottery is made in China by adding grains of rice to the porcelain before it is fired. The rice burns away and leaves this beautiful translucent pattern that is paired with the floral pattern in the center and around the rim.
This is a vintage set in good condition with no chips, cracks or crazing. One saucer does have a little dark spot on the rim, but this appears to be a production flaw rather than damage as it is under the glazing. The flat spoons have little nubs on the back of each to aid the user in holding them and balancing them when setting them down. Each piece has a Chinese trademark symbol and the words, "made in China" on the bottom.
The bowls are 4 inches in diameter and 1 inch high; the spoons are 5 inches long and the handle rises almost 2 inches high.
A great addition to any porcelain collection or a great gift for a collector of Asian vintage pieces.
