SARAH AND SON by Timothy Shea
Grossett & Dunlap, 1st Photoplay Ed., 1929
Condition: Very Good+ in Good dust jacket
An unlettered music-hall singer's son is take from her; she conducts a years-long search for him as her fame as a performer and her respectability grow. This is the Photoplay edition of Shea's novel, illustrated with eight scenes from the Paramount early talkie with Ruth Chatterton and Fredric March. (Chatterton was nominated for the Best Actress Oscar.) A nice copy with the uncommon dust jacket. The book has moderately bumped corners, a modest edge bump and a light front cover wrinkle; some pages show a slight moisture ripple, and there is moderate toning. The binding is firm, with no hinge cracking, and there are no markings or creasing on the pages. The jacket has a very faded (but readable) spine, there are several edge tears, especially at the folds, modest chips at the spine ends, small staining on the lower fc and some darkening on the lower bc, some tape on the inside of the jacket and a few other bits of wear; still, a sturdy wrapper.
