Brand new factory sealed vhs tape is the same full screen aspect ratio of 1:33.1 that is also on the disc version, so not much to gain there. Plus, it's hard to find new since it is Out Of Print (OOP) and no longer being manufactured in  any format.

This also has the original Theatrical trailer as a special feature. You also have the option to sing along with closed captioning. Pop-n-go retro video has no fussy menus to mess with either.

This is the third movie version of the 1927 musical about the life and loves of a Mississipi riverboat theatre troupe. Terrific musical numbers, with fun dance routines from Gower Champion, who went on to great fame as a choreographer.

Kathryn Grayson is somewhat mediocre, but lovely to look at and hear. Ava Gardner didn't want to do the part of Julie, although she eventually received fabulous reviews--her singing was dubbed by Annette Warren.

The 171-foot "Cotton Blossom" boat was built on the 'Tarzan' lake on the MGM back lot at an astounding $126,468 in 1951. William Warfield's film debut--his "Ole Man River"--was recorded in one take.
