This is a Hard-To-Find, VINTAGE, EXCELLENT Condition "Black Lacquer Japanese Lacquerware Bird Stork Duck Sea Gull Tern Decoy Decoys Design Lidded Greeting Card Holder Desk Caddy Storage Stash Jewelry Letter Trinket Box" made in Japan for Otagiri in the early-1980s.  Received as a gift by my friend's Uncle in 1981, this HANDSOME Lacquerware Holder Caddy Box is typical of the type of high-end giftware the Japanese were making in the 1970s and 1980s.  Used on his desk over the years, it is in EXCELLENT Condition with NO cracks, missing inlay, odors or other damage; it comes from a smoke-free, pet-free home.  With a height of approximately 1 3/4 inches, it measures approximately 6 5/8th inches long and approximately 4 5/8ths inches wide/deep; it has the Original "Lacquerware - Cleaning Instructions - Otagiri" sticker on the inside of the lid. 



This ELEGANT and STYLISH Card Holder Desk Caddy Trinket Box is a pleasure to view with its colorful, inlaid art work that shows several decoys - Stork, Sea Gull, Duck, Tern - and edges trimmed in gold.  An ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS example of Japanese Lacquer craftsmanship, this BEAUTIFULLY HANDSOME Box has inlaid detailing with a WONDERFUL texture, making it IDEAL for display or use at home or work!  Otagiri is the trademark for Otagiri Mercantile Company, Inc. or OMC which was an importer and a distributor of porcelain, stoneware, and giftware in the San Francisco area for more than 46 years; they designed products for Gibson Greetings, among other companies.  Their products were made in Japan exclusively for them and imported for distribution to the United States where they were sold to high end department stores and gift shops.  Otagiri products were all handcrafted and hand-painted making each an collectible piece of art.
