Vintage original 11x14 in. US lobby card from the popular 1940's seaport-set comedy/drama, BARNACLE BILL, released in 1941 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and directed by Richard Thorpe. Based upon a story by Jack Jevne, a grumpy old fisherman (Wallace Beery) tries to avoid marriage (to Marjorie Main), contend with a daughter he never knew he had (Virginia Weidler), and scuttle the attempts of landlubbers. The cast includes Leo Carrillo, Donald Meek, Barton MacLane, Connie Gilchrist, Sara Haden, and William Edmunds.
The image features an interior shot inside the home of Marge Cavendish (Marjorie Main) as she plays the piano and signs along with Bill Johansen (Wallace Beery). It is unrestored in fine- condition with a chip on the top right corner in the borders only; random signs of light wear along the top edge with some smudges in the top and bottom borders; and light signs of random wear on the corners. The beautiful, rich color tints are fresh and vibrant without any signs of fading.
Barnacle Bill was the second of seven MGM films pairing Beery and character actress Marjorie Main. MGM contractee Shirley Temple refused to appear in the film and was replaced by Virginia Weidler. The Schooner "We're Here" previously appeared in the 1937 film, Captains Courageous. Some of the scenes with the schooner sailing under full canvas were taken from that film. "Lux Radio Theater" broadcast a 60-minute radio adaptation of the movie on April 1, 1946 with Wallace Beery and Marjorie Main reprising their film roles.
