Dr. Marrow (liam Neeson) enlists three subjects to stay at Hill House for a study on insomnia that's (unknown to them) actually a study in fear response. There's brash Theo (Catherine Zeta Jones), dopey Luke (Owen Wilson), and fragile Nell (Lilli Taylor) who turns out to have unexpected ties to the haunted mansion.

Bruce Dern appears briefly as the scruffy caretaker, with Marian Seldes his Mrs. Danvers-like wife. When the ornate bedframe comes alive scene happens, the film reverts to letterbox widescreen briefly for this scene so you can see what is going on better, then resumes back to full screen afterwards.
