Vintage original 27x39.5 in. US single-sided one-sheet poster from the popular 2000's magic-themed fantasy mystery drama/romance, THE ILLUSIONIST, released in 2006 by Yari Film Group Releasing and directed by Neil Burger. Based upon the short story, Isenheim the Illusionist, by Steven Millhauser, in turn-of-the-century Vienna, a magician (Edward Norton) uses his abilities to secure the love of a woman (Jessica Biel) far above his social standing. The cast includes Paul Giamatti, Rufus Sewell, Eddie Marsan, Jake Wood, Tom Fisher, and Aaron-Taylor Johnson.
Unrestored and rolled as originally issued, this vintage original one-sheet is in fine+ condition with random signs of light wear along the edges and some small scattered creases from handling over time. There are no pinholes, tears, stains, or other flaws and the rich color tints are fresh and vibrant without any signs of fading.
So that the crew would not have to use CGI to "fake" the magical illusions seen, Edward Norton received intensive training in sleight-of-hand and other stage magic techniques from British magician James Freedman and American magician Ricky Jay. The Orange Tree trick was made famous in France by Jean-Eugene Robert-Houdin in the 1840's. It is first mentioned in old Indian manuscript as an illusion by Faux. Pinetti, an 18th century magician, did a similar trick, but he used lemons. Robert-Houdin was the first to use real fruit.
