Vintage original 22x28 in. US "Style B" half-sheet poster from the popular 1950's POW-themed war drama, PRISONER OF WAR, released in 1954 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and directed by Andrew Marton. Set during the Korean War, an American officer (Ronald Reagan) is tasked with infiltrating a Communist-run POW camp in order to investigate the treatment of American prisoners by the enemy. The cast includes Steve Forrest, Dewey Martin, Oscar Homolka, Robert Horton, Paul Stewart, and Harry Morgan.
As indicated in the lower right corner of the yellow background, this is the "Style B" poster that was issued for the films original 1954 US theatrical release. It is unrestored and folded as originally issued in good condition only with small creases, nicks, and tears in the borders; there is one small vertical tear on the center foldline on each side of the vertical foldline and light separation at the center crossfold. There are no pinholes, stains, or other flaws and the rich color tints are fresh and vibrant without any signs of fading.
Capt. Robert H. Wise, who lost 90 pounds in a North Korean POW camp, served as the film's technical advisor and attested that all the torture scenes in the movie were based on actual incidents. No female is seen or heard in this movie, except as dancers in a movie shown to the camp. Prisoner of War marked the film debut of Dick Sargent, perhaps best remembered today as the "Second Darren" on the classic 1960's TV sitcom, Bewitched.
