Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band ~ Nine Tonight

'Bob Seger returned to the live album format with 1981's Nine Tonight. The album is comprised of versions of songs from Seger's previous three best-sellers: 1976's Night Moves, 1978's Stranger In Town, and 1980's Against The Wind. While Seger and his Silver Bullet Band can stretch out in a concert setting, the live versions here stick pretty close to their original studio versions. The cut of "Old Time Rock & Roll" included here proves to be even better than the original, while such Sege standards as "Against the Wind," "Night Moves," and "Rock & Roll Never Forgets" also prove to be highlights...'

Jackson Browne ~ Looking East

'After two albums in which his songwriting had become increasingly more politically oriented, Jackson Browne returned here (mostly) to his more familiar brand of introspective folk/pop/rock. The title song is an exception; over a stark, guitar-driven backing (much harder and more alternative-sounding than Browne had ever previously attempted), the singer meditates on what he sees as hollowness in America's soul (with harmony vocal courtesy of Ally McBeal singing star Vonda Shepard).Elsewhere, there's a Dylan-esque ode to Browne's struggling years, and an attack on big media, "Information Overload," with a worldbeat feel. Other highlights are an extremely hooky pop song ("I'm the Cat"), and an uplifting reggae tune, "It is One," bemoaning the world's lack of unity...'
