1 Pack (2 Roots) Hawaiian Bamboo Orchid Arundina graminifolia Bamboo orchids (Arundina spp.) are so named because the tall stems look like bamboo and the flowers resemble the blooms of Cattleya orchids. The flowers are fragrant and attract butterflies and bees. The blooms appear intermittently throughout the year, with the heaviest blooming in the spring and summer. The flowers on bamboo orchids are white, pink, purple or mauve with yellow or purple lips. The blooms open one at a time from the top of the stems. Each flower is two to three inches across and lasts for three or four days. The plants have slender, grasslike leaves and grow five to eight feet tall. Small shoots or plants called keikis form at the base of the inflorescence. In the wild, the canes tip over onto the ground, and the keikis root to form a colony of plants.
