The Moringa is also called the Miracle Tree and is considered one of the most nutritious plant in the planet. It is also known as horseradish tree, drumstick tree, clarifier tree. In East Africa moringa is known as " mother's best friend" and in the Philippines where it is widely used, it is called Malunggay.
The leaves of the Moringa oleifera tree can be consumed fresh, cooked or dried. Moringa is rich in many vitamins, including Vitamin A, several forms of Vitamin B, Vitamin C, Vitamin D and Vitamin E. In fact, it has more of these vitamins than a variety of foods that all claim to be excellent sources of them, such as carrots, oranges and milk. Protein is a vital nutrient found in the leaves of this tree. There is twice as much calcium in Moringa leaves than in milk. Iron is found in large quantities in Moringa leaves as well. In fact, there is three times as much iron in this plant than in spinach.
I love fresh moringa leaves and use them in a lot of my veggie dishes, especially in bean soups. Since dried Moringa leaves retain their nutrient content, it is also possible to make them into powder. Moringa leaf powder can be made and stored easily and is an excellent nutritional supplement and can be added to any dish or drink ( green smoothies) or made into tea.
Moringa trees grow very fast, as much as 15 feet a year! Most of the moringa leaves sold commercially are imported from other countries. The moringa leaves in this listing come from organic, homegrown trees right in my garden! In summer they love the Florida summer heat and abundant rain so they continuously produce the young, fresh leaves which are then harvested, naturally air dried in the shade and kept in air tight containers until use. No heat is applied in the drying process.
The dried whole leaves offer versatility of use. Dry moringa leaves can be added to soups or can be used to make a healthy, nutritious earthy tasting tea. It can be minced or powdered and added to yogurt, cereals, milk or your green smoothies.
Please take note that herbs do not always dry in uniform color. The younger leaves may be brownish or darker than others and do not make them less fresh. It is part of the natural process.
The listing is for one ounce of freshly dried organic, homegrown moringa leaves in a resealable bag.
