This heavy braided metal rug beater has the original wood handle firmly attached. The handle shows some wear consistent with its age and use. The wire loop is "tear drop shape" and still utilitarian. No sign of rust.  Until vacuum cleaners became affordable in the early 20th century, everyone used a rug beater to clean bedding, runners, and other household textiles.  Measures 28" long x 7" at widest point.
