I am not familiar with the various cap badges so I am basing this description on what I have found on the Internet. I am sure you will know more than I do and would appreciate any detailed information. This badge or hat medallion measures just less than 3 inches in diameter. There are two pins on the back of the device. The cut out Eagle is in the center of a circle and is holding an olive branch and arrows in its talons. The head is facing towards the olive branch, which symbolizes peace. It is very three dimensional and has a high relief. The Banner has E PLURIBUS UNUM in all caps. The back has G23 on it, which according to the Wehrmacht-awards website for manufacturer’s marks of U.S. Metal Emblems stands for the Ira Greene Co., New York, NY/Providence, RI. The wartimecollectibles site states that single letter/double digit number codes were made from 1965 until about 1978. They show the G-23 as being used from 1965 to 1967. The Ira Green Company was founded in 1943 and is still the largest manufacturer and distributor of US Military accessories.
It is in nice vintage condition with the gilt or gold finish showing some normal wear that you would expect on an item that has been worn. When looking at it, it has a lovely shine and you don’t really notice the wear without magnification. Please look carefully at the enlarged photographs as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.
