The Space Shuttle Program was the 4th human spaceflight program that accomplished routine transportation for Earth-to-orbit crew and cargo from the first crewed flight April 12, 1981 to the last flight July 21, 2011.

Its official name, Space Transportation System (STS) was taken from a 1969 plan for a system of reusable spacecraft. The Shuttle is the only winged manned spacecraft to have achieved multiple orbit and landing flights.
