Contemporary Decorative Imari Ware Stylized 6 inch Plate Ready to Hang/Display

 

Imari ware is a Western term for a brightly-colored style of Arita ware Japanese export porcelain made in the area of Arita, in the former Hizen Province, northwestern Ky?sh?. They were exported to Europe in large quantities, especially between the second half of the 17th century and the first half of the 18th century. "Imari" of that period is expensive and coveted by specialized collectors.

For those who seek decorative pieces rather than collectibles there are pieces like this one that are contemporary but colorful and stylized. Those two red characters on the back The two red characters on the right side stand for Bi Jutsu which means beautiful artwork. Indeed, the plate is decorated with typical Imari colors of  red, blue, yellow, and green in an elaborate design. There are flowers, bamboo, gilding, and the good fortune “bat”. The original retail price sticker of $4.50 is till affixed from the 1970’s.
