THIS MONTH'S HIGHLIGHTS: Hi-ho, hi-ho, a-camping we will go. But before heading for the hills, be sure to study this month's special section on family camping. In it, outdoorsman Chet Fish offers info and helpful hints on everything from tenting to menus to what to do with the family dog. Camping is fun whether you're 8 or 80, and so is swimming. In Swim for Your Life, Dr. James Counsilman-coach of the victorious United States Olympic swimming team-tells how to get the most from a great sport that lasts a lifetime, winter, spring, summer and fall. Another sport that's making headlines is surfing, and a California Explorer post is making surf-and-safety headlines. In Hanging Ten at Coronado, author Arnold Hano and photographer Gene Daniels caught the boys in action for this bubbly BL article. . . . Ken Boyer, star third baseman of the St. Louis Cardinals, sat down with sportswriter Jack Zanger and they produced Playing Third Base-"must" reading for ballplayers from the Little Leagues to the major leagues. . . . For the last 17 years the Boy Scouts of America has sent a delegation of 12 Explorers to Washington, D.C., to meet with the President and other dignitaries and to report on B.S.A.'s progress in the year past. What they saw and did on 1965's visit is recorded by staffer Ernie Doclar in Report to the Nation. . . . America's Philippines-based Peace Corps is the subject of tale-spinner Hugh Cave's mystery thriller, Peril at the Bridge. His story's suspense and excitement mount as the hero, a young volunteer worker, gets entangled in a web woven by "outside forces" plotting to discredit the Peace Corps and making him their victim. . . . Voyage of the Vagabond, Part I of a three-part adventure yarn by Richard Thruelsen, begins quietly as a boy paddles a boat into a Cape Cod inlet. Then he is suddenly swept out to sea by a storm and unexpectedly saved-only to find himself plunged into a challenging situation with a riddle that defies solution.....Part II is even more exciting, and we'll be looking forward to seeing it -and you-next month!
