"They fly through the air with the greatest of ease, the daring young man on the flying trapeze..." Alas, most of our circuses have been regulated out of existence. Instead, we have to resort to recalling those memories and sharing them with our children. To help in this endeavor, here is an AWESOME, Vintage Playmobil #3720 Circus Romani play set.
Manufactured for 4 years before being retired (e.g. 1992-1996), this particular offering is in NEAR MINT - MINT condition and is accompanied by its original instructions and the RARE Playmobil Circus Storybook! This set features a number of talented high wire aerialists and trapeze artists along with a ringmaster and a circus worker.
This is a huge set (23" W x 18" H) when assembled. The Circus Romani big top arena has a realistic-looking center ring, two ticket windows, an impressive entrance to the "Biggest Show on Earth," bleachers for the audience, a safety net to catch any "off-target" performers, a high wire bike, a ladder for the performers to access the elevated high wire platforms, "spot-lights" to highlight the "acts," jaunty flags, a balancing bar with suspended trapeze swings, an elevated swing from the topmost circus sign, a gathering area replete with curtain for the performers to assemble behind before entering the arena and much, much more. The level of detail is amazing---from the yellow shoes that grip the tight rope and allow the performer to navigate the rope without falling, to the zoo keeper's tools, to the unicycle that really works and that supports another dangling performer, to the safety platforms at the end of the tautly strung tightrope this set will captivate your youngsters' imaginations. Altogether, this play set contains around 150 pieces. I've carefully inspected and checked all the pieces against the set's inventory instructions. It is 100% complete and there are no broken or cracked pieces. This is a FABULOUS play set!.
I currently have some Playmobil Circus "add-on" accessory sets listed on Bonanza. These add-on sets, designed to accompany the #3720 Circus Romani set, allow even more extended play opportunities.
FYI, Playmobil toys are reknowned for their high quality, durability, attention to detail, and the extendability of their underlying toy system. All figures are scaled to fit in a child's hand with add-on accessories (e.g. hats, skirts, aprons, collars, scarves, armor, headresses, shoes, sandals, jewelry etc.) lending authenticity to the different characters involved. The jointed figures are able to clasp items in their hands and move about through "child power." A wide assortment of vehicles, animals, furniture, and buildings are realistically scaled according to their "real-life" equivalents and to reflect actual life scenarios. Several of the animals have mouths that open and close and the elephants' trunks can pick up buckets by their handles etc.. All of Playmobil's play sets revolve around established "themes" familiar to young children (e.g. Medieval Castles and Knights, Pirates, Western Forts, Native Americans, Trains, Stage Coaches, Gold Mines, Circuses, Zoos, Victorian Mansions, Fairy Tale Castles, Sherwood Forest, Construction, Doctors and Dentists' Offices, Hospitals, Airports, Modern Homes etc.). Due to the level of detail, children's imaginations are afforded endless open-ended play opportunities. Not only do these toys broaden a child's imagination, creativity, attention, and use of elaborate oral narratives, they also facilitate a child's cooperative and dramatic play skills and fine motor capabilities. These toys have won numerous national and international toy awards and conform to the highest production standards of quality and safety in accordance with European and American safety guidelines. The toys, while primarily manufactured in Germany, also are produced in Malta and Spain. They are distributed in more than 70 countries throughout the world.
I can vouch for the high quality and play value these toys afford. My own children played with a variety of these sets up until age 13! Talk about getting "your bang for the buck." Several of them were employed in school diorama projects. What a lifesaver! I also used them with my preschool and school aged clients for speech-language therapy. They'd be great for families that are home-schooling their children.
Due to the small, intricate parts, Playmobil recommends that these toys be reserved for children 4 years of age and up. Adult supervision is highly recommended for children under 3-4 years of age.
The set comes replete with its original instructions and a RARE Playmobil Circus Storybook. Both show some wear; however, they are great references for what this set includes and what other "add-on" sets were manufactured to go with this set.
Don't miss out on this AMAZING play set! It weighs @5 lbs. 6 oz. UNWRAPPED and my location is Lafayette, IN (47905).
