Vintage original 11x14 in. US double-weight matte textured photograph from the popular silent film comedy/romance THE PATSY, released in 1928 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and directed by the renowned King Vidor. Marion Davies stars as an awkward teenager hopelessly in love with
her elder sister's boyfriend who tries to make him notice her.
The image features a beautiful exterior medium shot in the backyard of a house of pretty blonde Patricia Harrington (Marion Davies) in the arms of Tony Anderson (Orville Caldwell) as she gazes upwards into his face as the couple tenderly holds hands. Printed for the film's original 1928 US theatrical release, this vintage original oversized photograph was printed on a textured double-weight matte photographic stock. It is unrestored in fine- condition with corner creases; a 1 in. diagonal crease on the bottom border near the left corner; and several very small blemishes in the right border. The image quality is very sharp with fine detail and nice contrast that compliments the romantic feel of the image. Please note that the outer borders and verso are not as yellow as they appear in the listing photographs.

The Patsy was the first of three collaborations between Marion Davies and director King Vidor. This film is popular with fans because of Miss Davies' hilarious impersonations of fellow movie stars Mae Murray, Pola Negri, and Lillian Gish in an attempt to gain the attention of Lawrence Gray's character. This was also Marie Dressler's turnaround film. After having quite a slump in her career, Dressler was apparently having her last meal at a restaurant before planning to kill herself when director Allan Dwan, who was sitting at a nearby table, ended up offering her the role for King Vidor that night. The movie was a success and Dressler's career skyrocketed again. |
