The size of a typical New Orleans Mardi Gras doubloon is about the size of a silver dollar. Doubloons are generally made of metal like aluminum. They are either handed out or thrown by the float riders in the parades and it is possible for them to get minor scratches if they hit the ground. Each krewe or organization throws their own doubloons and each year they have a new theme. We consider doubloons as new-other because the doubloons are brand new when the float’s riders disperse them to the crowds. Doubloons are excellent collectibles and generally rise in value over time. ***
