Late Victorian (circa 1880) desk top art pottery statue. As shown, this statue depicts a young shepherd standing in a field of oversized foliage with filigree scroll at the base. A bowl holder is at his right side. This statue measures 6 3/4" wide by 8 7/8" tall and has the vast majority of its original gold gilding. The bottom is impressed with 987 (a mold number). There is a small chip to the back (not seen from the front) of the shepherd's hat and the solid copper hook that he holds is likely a replacement. Still, a beautiful example of the Victorian flare for decoration. An interesting and decorative piece for your collection. Period of Production: Victorian 1838-1901.
