This is a stunning limited edition proof ornament or pendant signed Nouveau Bleus New Orleans and the “Proof/250”. This was created by the artist, B. Clark, although it is unsigned, as it is the proof for the series. The pendant has gorgeous shades of cobalt blue to a turquoise Scarab (the Scarb is more of a turquoise color than the light blue shade in the photos due to camera & lighting) with gold over an antiqued white soft porcelain or ceramic background with an unfired back. This piece was most likely produced for the Egyptian Exhibit in New Orleans in 1970s.  The “Treasures of Tutankhamun” organized by the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Egypt and was hosted by six museums in the United States and Internationally from 1972-1981.  The pendant measures approximately 3 ¾ inches long and 2 ½ inches wide.

This Scarab is in excellent vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. If you look closely you will see what looks like a little crack in the bottom portion of the wings, but it is not a crack, it is smooth and it is how it was made under the glaze and it only shows with magnification. You will need to add a jump ring or some type of loop if you plan to wear it as a pendant. A ribbon would work nicely as a way to hang it, if being used as an ornament. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

This would be perfect for anyone who collects Egyptian Revival jewelry or ornaments. It is a gorgeous and unique Artist’s Proof and is sure to bring many compliments. I have found other examples of B. Clark’s porcelain Egyptian jewelry on the Internet, including an Evil Eye pendant design, but they are rare and extremely hard to find. I did see one of the Scarab pendants on Worthpoint that had sold, and it was signed and marked 24/250 so they were produced after the proof was made. This would make a great housewarming gift for anyone who lives in New Orleans!
