Complete WW10K Chipset Development Kit
Aspen is a complete development kit for the WW10K H.264 codec chipsets for HD video conferencing and broadcast camera head-end applications, respectively. Aspen gives developers access to the complete range of functionality of these chipsets. Its fully modular design provides designers with the ability to rapid prototype with different video I/O and host configurations.
Highly Modular Design
Aspen consists of four mezzanine modules and a mainboard. The four mezzamodules consist of:
Video input mezzanine module.
Video output mezzanine module.
Decoder mezzanine module.
Embedded host mezzanine module.

Linux OS support
The video input module can accept either composite, S-Video, RGB, DVI or HD-SDI inputs, convert these to YUV 4:2:2 format and feed up to four streams simultaneously to the encoder on the mainboard.
The video output module can produce either HDMI, HD-SDI, RGB, composite or S-Video outputs from four YUV 4:2:2 decoded streams coming off the decoder.
The embedded host module conof a TI DM642 DSP processor, which can be used to implement audio codec functions and system host functions such as Ethernet communication and encoder and decoder configuration and control.
For video conferencing and telepresence applications the mainis configured with a WW10000BA encoder, WW100001BA decoder mezzanine module, video input and output mezzanine modules and embedded host mezzanine module. Two Aspen kits can communicate in this configuration in full-duplex encode-decode mode with each other via Ethernet, either in stand-alone or in PCI add-on mode. HD resolution cameras can be connected directly to the HDMI inputs on the mainboard and on the video input mezzanine module. SD resolution cameras can be connected directly to the CVBS, Y/C and component video inputs of the video input mezzanine module. HD monitors can be connected to the HDMI outputs on the video output mezmodule.
For low delay, live video broadcast applications the mainboard is configured with either a WW20000BA encoder with video input mezzanine module, or a WW20001BA decoder with video output mezmodule, in addition to the embedded host mezzanine module. An Aspen kit with WW20000BA encoder configuration and an Aspen kit with WW20001BA decoder configuration can communicate with each other over Ethernet in either stand-alone or PCI add-on configura. An HD camcorder can be interfaced via HD-SDI or HDMI to the video input module or via HDMI to the mainboard with WW20000BA encoder. An HD monitor can be connected to the HDMI outputs of the video output module on a mainboard with WW20001BA decoder.
Flexible Operation Modes
The PCI host function on the embedded host module allows Aspen to be used as a PCI add-on card in a PC, while the LAN function allows it to be used in a stand-alone configuration, running IP and RTP protocol stacks. This provides developers with maximum flexibility. An embedHTTP server on the host module allows convenient, browser-based monitoring, control and configuration of the encoder and decoder.
SDK Support
Aspen comes with a complete set of APIs, device drivers, setup and configuration utilities and sample programs. All software is easily ported between different OS and RTOS platforms. The API provides access not only to video input and output streams, but also to encodand decoder tools, bit rate control, etc. A hardware abstraction layer (HAL) decouples the underlying hardware from applications. A single device driver supports WW10K and WW20K encoders and decoders. Separate device drivers are included for support of Aspen in a PCI add-on card configuration. Utilities and sample programs are available for stand-alone as well as PCI add-on operation modes.
